And sometimes you’re having so much fun that your Streetdance class is over before you even know it! So, it is really important that you make sure you are getting the most out of your Fresh Vibes Streetdance class when you’re there and I therefore want to share with you how you can do this! All our wonderful Fresh Vibes Instructors receive extensive training on how to provide you with the best experience week in and week out in class. I therefore thought it was important that you also got some training on how you can ensure you get the most out of your lesson. 1. Make sure you have eaten before class!Food provides us with fuel and energy that we need to do everyday activities. When you are partaking in exercise it is even more important that you are fuelling your body with food which will turn into energy so that it can deliver the goods for you.Did you know that if you exercise regularly and don’t fuel your body, your body will hold onto and store fat as it worries you aren’t going to feed it regularly? Therefore, make sure you eat healthily and regularly and make sure you have eaten before class. Ideally leave 2 hours of digestion time before class! 2. Mentally prepare yourself for classAs most of you know, the warm up is designed to get your body warm and supple so that it is ready for exercise. What some of you might not know is that the Fresh Vibes warm up is also specifically designed to prepare your mind for dancing as well! You need to get your whole body ready for dancing, and this includes your mind! Focus on how the moves feel as you do them and start to become more aware of the music and the beat. Ask yourself ‘What kind of class do you want to have?’ Imagine your perfect class, where everything goes great, exactly how you want it to go. Quickly run this perfect class through in your mind a few times. Imagine yourself busting out the moves, looking great, feeling great, loving the music and having a great time. We call this mental rehearsal and it’s what great athletes and sports people do before they go out to perform. By modeling their strategies for success we can create some of that success in our own lives! 3. Create Excellent Internal DialogueSay positive and empowering things to yourself in your head as you are warming up. Start as you mean to go on!So for example, if you start the lesson with ‘I’m not going to remember the choreography’, ‘I look fat today’, ‘I’m tired from my long day at work’ or ‘I wonder what’s for dinner tonight’, then your focus is in the wrong place! However, if you start the lesson with, ‘I’m going to remember the choreography’, ‘I’m going to have a great lesson today’, ‘I’m going to give 100% energy’, etc, then this will impact massively on your experience. The thoughts and feelings we have directly impact on our experiences!!! Even if you don’t believe these positive statements yet, just by saying them to yourself you create a more empowering option in your head that will serve your dancing better. 4. Drink lots of water before, during & after class!Dehydration directly impacts on performance! So if you want to dance better, drink more water! So drink, drink, drink (water that is!). Energy drinks are okay, fizzy drinks are a big no, no! The best thing to drink is water and lots of it!For every hour of intense exercise, you can lose up to 1 litre of water through sweating. So make sure you take a large bottle to class and regularly hydrate yourself. 5. Make sure you eat within 2 hours of your class finishing! From a fitness perspective, if you want to get the most out of your class make sure you eat within 2 hours of your class finishing. And when we say eat, we mean eat a healthy meal! This ensures that your body is able to handle regular exercise without you feeling tired. It also means you get the most out of the exercise that you have just done. If you don’t feed your body it goes into panic mode and stores fat – so fuel the fire and eat! This term we are offering all additional courses at 50% off, so lots of you will now be dancing more than once a week. It is therefore even more important that you are looking after your body so that it can produce the results you want! 6. Practice, Practice, PracticeAlways practice! It really can't be said enough. The more you practice either in your mind or physically practice with your body the more unconscious the moves become and the better you dance them.To ensure you are getting the most out of your class, practice at home. This will allow you to use valuable class time to ask your instructor for specific help on any areas of the choreography that you feel need work. Also, if you practice then you will have more time to learn new choreography in class! Result! We hope these tips are useful and they allow you to get even more out of your Fresh Vibes Streetdance Course. Feel free to send any feedback or comments about them to dance@freshvibesdance.com.
